The Italians have style. Period. So do the French, but when in Nice, France, go Italian

Glam and glitter, Italian style … in France

The Italians have style. Period. So do the French, but when in Nice, France, go Italian.

In Nizza, the gorgeous Boscolo Exedra Nice hotel gives just the right touch of glam with a little bit of glitter. Think creamy all-white suites (with white Carrara marble and white Murano glass chandeliers) that keep it sleek and spare while being sumptuous and sexy.

There’s oomph in the details: the ornate, curvaceous headboard, the crystal chandeliers bedside, the signature rose knobs on furniture…all of-the-moment. It’s “exuberant minimalism.”

The modern vibe somehow meshes with the historic architecture and Belle Époque style of the 1821 building. Saunter down the grand original staircase, sit and stare at bold Italian art in the lobby (and there’s a white biliardo table), sip some prosecco (of course, when in France, champagne does just fine…) and mangi in the two hotel restaurants and bar (you’ll mingle with très stylish locals having a drink before the show at the theatre across the boulevard)…

My highlight: Standing under the falling water (that gushes from an organic, tree-shaped piece of art) in the cavern-like underground pool and then soaking in the steam at the hammam. La dolce vita! Φ

  • Murano and marble: You’ve got to love how Italian style can be at once ostentatious and understated. And obviously the French do too!
